Abstract

Cyanobacteria is a bacterium that can do photosynthesis. Through photosynthesis, it also can transport electrons from inside the membrane to the outer membrane. Recently, many researchers have studied about this bacterium for alternative energy because it is eco-friendly, and possible resource of electricity. However, the total production of electricity from cyanobacteria was not enough for demands and researchers tried to find a more efficient alternative. However, we still have the possibility of using cyanobacteria as a resource of photovoltaic. The interesting fact is that cyanobacteria can modify its gene expression by different light quality, also known as wavelength. During my research, I set up different wavelength atmospheres for the Arthrospira platensis using the LED system (Red, Blue, Yellow) and tested the photovoltaic performances. The performance test results within 25 hours are below. 460 nm (blue light): 0.047673 V, 590 nm (yellow light): 0.048619 V, 660 nm (red light): 0.029320 V. In addition, each wavelength spectrum showed different patterns of photovoltaic performances. To check the electrical generation from A. Spirulina, I used our lab’s micro-sized bio-solar cell. With this device and different wavelength conditions, I could find novel ways to improve the amount of electrical generation from Arthrospira platensis.
