Abstract

Synthesis and characterization of metal particles in the nano-range are of great concern owing to their
enormous number of applications. Magnetite nanoparticles have recently attained the attention of the
researchers due to the usage in some specific applications founded on magnetic, electrical, and
optical properties. So, the scrutiny of the various method and the mechanism for the growth of
magnetite nanoparticles is essential, as the physical and chemical properties rely on the mechanism
of growth of the nanoparticles. This first part of this chapter deals with the fabrication of the magnetite
particles via different methods such as sol-gel, hydrothermal, thermal decomposition, micro-emulsion,
and co-precipitation method along with a discussion of the pros and cons. The second half of this
chapter is related to the analysis of the physical and chemical properties to investigate the
applications of synthesized magnetite nanoparticles in various fields. This can be achieved by a
thorough and combinational investigation of different characteristics techniques. For this X-ray
diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM),
and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques are explored in detail.
