Abstract

Sex ratio of a freshwater fish. Cirrhjna reba (Hamilton) has been studied from Bhima river, District Pune, Maharashtra. India. The overall se ratio males to females were 1 : 1.51. Females outnumbered males, although the sex ratio showed no significant deviation in the population. During peak spawning (June - July) females outnumbered males. During post spawning (September) there was almost no difference between the numbers of two sexes. In length groups 162 - 171 and 182. 191 mm sex ratio was almost 1 : 1. In larger length groups (212 .221 and 222 - 231mm) only females were recorded. Males were not recorded above 211 mm length.
