Abstract

The objective is to report the case of a 68-year-old patient diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, referred to the Ophthalmology sector of the Ambulatório Araújo Lima Outpatient Clinic in Manaus, State of Amazonas (Brazil), for presenting anterior uveitis as an ophthalmological finding. The patient has a history of reduced visual acuity on the right, and sporadic pain in the right eye with eye tearing. The Biomicroscopy exam, the right eye shows grade 3 temporal pterygium, clear cornea, 360º posterior synechia, pupil in medium fixed mydriasis, cataract N 3/4; On examination of the left eye: clear cornea, N1 cataract. This case report confirms how ocular manifestations are present in rheumatological diseases. According to the Brazilian Society of Uveitis, autoimmune diseases are the most common cause of anterior uveitis in the national territory.
