It is now well documented that the blood group exhibits some relation with some diseases like peptic ulcer, gastric carcinoma, cardiovascular diseases, HIV infection etc, Considering the huge impact on such relationship the present study is designed to find out whether such kind of relation is found in between blood group and three widely prevalent diseases like anemia, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus (DM) in our country. If a such relationship can be established then it would become very easy to predict the type of population which is more prone or resistant to anemia/ hypertension/ DM and thus help us to recommend such population for taking preventive measures to eradicate or minimize the occurrence of these deadly diseases in such population. So the objective of the present study is to find out the existence of any correlation between blood group and these commonly occurring diseases like anemia, hypertension, DM which may guide to recommend the appropriate preventive measures in preventing the occurrence of these diseases in such populations.
From the present set of the experimental protocol, it was found that ABO antigens have some role in the occurrence of anemia, whereas the occurrence of hypertension and DM is not related to blood group antigens however the multicenter study with large population size is required before coming to a definitive conclusion.
